According to TrekMovie.com, actress Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberrry, passed away this morning at the age of 76. “The first lady of Star Trek” died of leukemia at her home in Bel Air, with her son Eugene at her side.
Roddenberry, of course, played Number One, Captain Pike’s first officer, in the first Star Trek pilot The Cage in 1964 and later played Nurse Christine Chapel in The Original Series and the movies Star Trek The Motion Picture and Star Trek IV The Voyage Home. She voiced Chapel and several other characters in The Animated Series. She also played Lwaxana Troi, Deanna Troi’s mother, in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek Deep Space Nine and was the voice of the Enterprise computer in the several Trek TV Series and the TNG movies. She recently completed reprising her role as the voice of the Enterprise for the new Star Trek movie.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the CARE Organization or Precious Paws both of which share Roddenberry’s love for animals and dedication to animal rescue.
